MOHILL
STATION HOUSE
Restoring our history and heritage
OUR STORY
What is the Mohill Station House?
The old Station House is a large part of Mohill’s heritage. Built in c. 1885 by the Cavan and Leitrim Railway, it connected the towns of Dromod, Mohill, Arigna, Drumshanbo and Ballinamore in Co. Leitrim to Ballyconnell and Belturbet in Co Cavan. The railway station was in operation from 17 October 1887 to 1 April 1959. Set on approximately 2 acres, the two story station master’s house remains a poignant reminder of the town's past.
A COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER
About The Redevelopment
The Station House lain semi-derelict until 2012 when it was purchased by a group of local trustees on behalf of the community. Funding was granted under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme with the condition that the local community must raise 10% of the cost of the project. Works began in 2024 and have been on-going since to transform this town landmark into a vibrant community space.
