A Few Words About
The History
Built in c. 1885 by The Cavan and Leitrim Railway, Mohill Station House served as a vital link between the towns of Dromod, Mohill, Arigna, Drumshanbo and Ballinamore in County Leitrim, and Ballyconnell and Belturbet in County Cavan. The station operated from 17 October 1887 until 1 April 1959. The two-story station master’s house remains standing in the town of Mohill as a reminder of its history and heritage.

A COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER
The Restoration
Neglected and overgrown, a group of local trustees in the community took it upon themselves to purchase the property in 2012. They had a shared goal of restoring the building for the community and creating a much needed space for arts and culture.Â
In 2019, the redevelopment was highlighted as a key priority in Mohill’s Economic Development Plan and in 2021, €500,000 in funding was secured through the Town & Village Scheme from Leitrim County Council and the Dept of Rural and Community Development.
Restoration works began in 2024 and have been on-going since to revive this historic building into a vibrant community space for arts, heritage and tourism amenities.
